Prayer is one of those topics that can be pretty under-talked about in Christian social circles. It’s not something that people openly want to admit that they struggle with. Everyone wants to act like they “know how to do it” and don’t have any anxiety surrounding prayer. Well, Adam Weber helps us realize that most people feel some nerves around prayer and how to combat those nerves!
In his book Talking with God, he brings a relatable and raw perspective to talking about prayer. He blatantly says that it’s simple. We make it more complicated than it needs to be. We have to talk to God the way we talk to a friend. Adam writes about having a relationship with God and how it changes how we approach Him. “Instead of just speaking words to someone, we’re talking with someone. With God.” Does this change how you think of prayer? It does for me! And the best part of all, God can’t wait for us to talk to Him.

I can’t tell you how many friends of mine are scared out of there minds to pray out loud. They feel like they won’t do it “right.” One of my favorite paragraphs in the book says, “I don’t need to be uptight and serious when I pray. Yes, it’s good to have a healthy reverence of and respect for God. But you don’t have to be emotionless or somber. There’s no need to practice our prayers before speaking them. God is abundantly loving and gracious.”
I challenge you today to evaluate your prayer life and see in which ways you can grow. I pray that the anxiety you feel surrounding prayer would be surrendered and that you can come to know God as you would a best friend. Talking with God is easy to read, straightforward, and motivating. Interested in Adam Weber’s latest book? You can find it on Amazon here.
